Pixies

Pixies are fey.

A fey is a creature with supernatural abilities and connections to nature or to some other force or place. Fey are usually human-shaped.

Fey have low-light vision.

Fey breathe, eat, and sleep.

Perhaps the best known and most elusive of all fey creatures, pixies live in the deepest, most pristine forests, but their insatiable curiosity often leads them far from home. Most pixies stand just over 2 feet tall – though they typically fly about the eye level of creatures they’re conversing with in order to maintain eye contact – and weigh about 30 pounds. Pixies talk quickly and easily become overexcited.

A pixie remains invisible even when it attacks. This ability is constant, but the pixie can suppress or resume it as a free action.

A pixie ignores damage from most weapons and natural attacks. Wounds heal immediately, or the weapon bounces off harmlessly. It can take normal damage from energy attacks (even nonmagical ones), spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities. Cold iron weapons can damage a pixie normally.

Strange beings both of and beyond the natural world, pixies have magic that occasionally favors them in strange ways. For example, one out of every 10 pixies exhibits unusual spell-like abilities. Alternatively, pixie dust affects arrows in various ways.

When a pixie fires an arrow from any bow, it can decide to change the arrow’s properties by sprinkling it with magical pixie dust. Doing so is a free action as long as the pixie is the one who fires the arrow. A pixie can generate a number of uses of dust each day – the dust is useless to another creature unless the pixie gives the dust freely. In this case, the pixie chooses what effect the dust will have on an arrow once it is applied, and it takes a standard action to apply the dust to an arrow. Once pixie dust is applied to an arrow the pixie’s chosen effect persists on the arrow for only seconds. As long as an arrow is altered in this way, if does not inflict damage when it hits – it only causes its new effect. A pixie can choose one of several effects when dusting an arrow.

Pixies have spell-like abilities. Spell-like abilities are magical and work just like spells (though they are not spells and thus have no verbal, somatic, focus, or material components). They go away in an antimagic field and are subject to spell resistance if the spell the ability is based on would be subject to spell resistance.

A spell-like ability usually has a limit on how often it can be used. A spell-like ability that can be used at will has no use limit. Using all spell-like abilities is a standard action, and doing so provokes attacks of opportunity. It is possible to use a spell-like ability defensively and avoid an attack of opportunity, just as when casting a spell. A spell-like ability can be disrupted just as a spell can be. Spell-like abilities cannot be used to counterspell, nor can they be counterspelled.

A pixie has spell resistance.
