Nymphs
Nymphs are fey.
A fey is a creature with
supernatural abilities and connections to nature or to some other force or
place. Fey are usually human-shaped.
Fey have low-light vision.
Fey breathe, eat, and sleep.
Many have lost their lives in vain search of the beauty of
the nymph, and many more to the madness and obsession their grace has upon
minds and bodies unprepared for their companionship. Yet the nymph herself is
not a cruel creature – a guardian of nature’s purest places and most beautiful
realms, she treats those who respect her and her abode with kindness, and may
even favor someone who takes her fancy with magical gifts. Yet those who would
seek to abuse her or her home quickly find that behind her beauty is a fierce
protector more than capable of defending her charge.
A nymph can choose an intelligent creature to inspire and
serve as a muse by giving that creature a token of her affection (typically a
lock of her hair). As long as the nymph retains her favor for this creature and
as long as the creature carries the nymph’s token, the creature is more likely
to resist mental attacks and spells, and is better at crafting and performing.
A bard who has a nymph as a muse in this way can use bardic performance for an
additional number of rounds per day. The nymph retains a link to her token and
its carrier as if she had cast a status spell on the carrier. The nymph
can end this effect at any time as a free action. A single nymph may only
inspire one creature at a time in this manner.
A nymph has unearthly grace.
A nymph can empathize with wild creatures, just like a druid
can.
A nymph casts spells as a druid.
Nymphs have spell-like abilities. Spell-like abilities are
magical and work just like spells (though they are not spells and thus have no
verbal, somatic, focus, or material components). They go away in an antimagic field and are subject to spell
resistance if the spell the ability is based on would be subject to spell resistance.
A spell-like ability usually has a limit on how often it can
be used. A spell-like ability that can be used at will has no use limit. Using
all spell-like abilities is a standard action, and doing so provokes attacks of
opportunity. It is possible to use a spell-like ability defensively and avoid
an attack of opportunity, just as when casting a spell. A spell-like ability
can be disrupted just as a spell can be. Spell-like abilities cannot be used to
counterspell, nor can they be counterspelled.
As a standard action, a nymph can stun a creature with a
look.
A nymph ignores damage from most weapons and natural
attacks. Wounds heal immediately, or the weapon bounces off harmlessly. It can
take normal damage from energy attacks (even nonmagical ones), spells,
spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities. Cold iron weapons can damage
a nymph normally.
All humanoids near a nymph who look directly at her may be
blinded permanently. A nymph can suppress or resume this ability as a free
action.
