The Ancient Library, Part 4 (Thuesday, Abadius (I) 16th, 4708 AR)
The heroes continued their exploration of the Jorgenfist library.
Forgefiend's Lair. This twenty-foot-square room was shaped almost like a silo - its ceiling arched up to a vaulted height of one hundred feet.
One of the guardians of this complex was a creature called a forgefiend - known also as a scanderig. This subtle and tricky creature could move through the stone surrounding the library like a fish swam through water.
The forgefiend was highly mobile, on the move through the walls of the entire complex. It waited to make its attacks against the heroes just after they'd finished battles with other creatures, fighting for only a while before slipping back into the walls. The heroes hadn't given up by the time they neared this chamber, so the scanderig launched a more substantial attack on them, fighting to the death.
Library Entrance. This long hallway had a looming ceiling forty feet above and was decorated with an intricate display of stone supports and beams. The walls were carved in long swaths of densely scribed runes - the seven-pointed star was repeated often. To the east, the hallway had caved in entirely - a battered door protruded from the rubble, but the hall beyond was completely filled with detritus. To the west, the hall ended at an immense bronze double door that bore a huge mirrorlike silver inlay of the ubiquitous seven-pointed star. This set of doors had no obvious hinges, handles, or locks, save for a single tiny star-shaped indentation at the center of the larger mirrored star. The heroes could read Thassilonian and so deciphered the runes on the walls as meditative prayers to the Peacock Spirit meant to calm and prepare the minds of any who sought to use the library.
Lean and Athirst. This strange, empty room had been smoothed over to an even greater extent than the other chambers in this complex - every angle of the walls had been modified into a gentle arc, removing any element of harsh regular lines entirely from view. Patches of what appeared to be scorch marks stained the walls and floors here and there, especially to the south, where part of the wall had fallen away.
Three entities from the incalculable depths of time, hounds of Tindalos, guarded this chamber. The hounds lurked in the room, eager to vent their frustration on the heroes. Each of the monsters was a gaunt, long-limbed quadruped with huge, soulless eyes and a toothy maw. The heroes killed them.
