Stones Over Sandpoint, Part 1 (Monday, Kuthona (XII) 23rd, 4707 AR)
After the heroes defeated the undead Lamatar, they returned with his body to Myriana. The nymph was overjoyed and cast reincarnate upon him. Normally, this spell would not work on Lamatar - not only had he been dead for longer than a week, but his body and soul had been tainted by undeath. Yet such was Myriana's love that her spirit infused the spell with power - although it caused her ghostly form to fade away, it enhanced the reincarnation such that it could restore Lamatar to life in a new body. Lamatar returned to life in a half-orc body, and though at first shamed by his failure to protect both Fort Rannick and his lover, he decided not to waste the new life she gave him. He became the new guardian of Whitewillow and did not return to civilization.
Thus the heroes successfully put Myriana to rest. As she faded away forever, she picked Fen to gift with a lasting inspiration.
As the heroes returned to Sandpoint, rumors of increased giant activity in the lowlands of Varisia were on everyone's tongue. The growing number of sightings at the fringes of civilization were enough to cause Magnimar's standing army to take notice. Signs of giants were everywhere - immense footprints, houses crushed to splinters, and secondhand tales of sightings by hermits and hunters. So far, the giants had not engaged in a full-on attack - but it seemed like that respite may soon be at an end.
Return to Sandpoint
The heroes were in the shadow of Hook Mountain, well over 200 miles away from Sandpoint, when they learned of the impending raid on the town. When they learned of the giants stealthily approaching Sandpoint by reading the message in Barl's lair, the news came as a shock. Fortunately, the giants weren't quite ready to launch their assault yet, and since the heroes made haste back home to warn their friends, they arrived in Sandpoint in time to aid in the city's defense.
Sandpoint Today
Before the raid, the heroes had some time to visit Sandpoint since they were away for a while. They felt like real heroes - while the citizens of Sandpoint had gone on with their lives, the heroes had broken up cults of murderers, defeated a clan of deadly ogres, explored Thassilonian ruins, and tangled with legendary monsters from the deep. They had become legends to the folk of Sandpoint - but that didn't mean that everyone in town was friendly to them. Old rivalries and feuds with locals like Ven Vinder flared up during this visit.
Since the heroes knew the giants were about to launch a raid, they wished to prepare the town for an assault. They organized the town militia and planned an evacuation of the town.
