Zombies

Zombies are undead.

Undead are once-living creatures animated by spiritual or supernatural forces.
  • Undead have darkvision.
  • Undead are immune to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms).
  • Undead are immune to bleed, death effects, disease, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.
  • Undead are not subject to nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. They are immune to damage to their physical ability scores, as well as to exhaustion and to fatigue effects.
  • They cannot heal damage on their own if they are unintelligent, although they can be healed. Negative energy (such as an inflict spell) can heal undead creatures. They may heal fast regardless of the creature's intelligence.
  • Undead are immune to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).
  • Undead are not at risk of death from massive damage, but are immediately destroyed and cannot be stabilized while dying.
  • They are not affected by raise dead and reincarnate spells or abilities. Resurrection and true resurrection can affect undead creatures. These spells turn undead creatures back into the living creatures they were before becoming undead.
  • Undead do not breathe, eat, or sleep.
Zombies are the animated corpses of dead creatures, forced into foul unlife via necromantic magic such as animate dead. While the most commonly encountered zombies are slow and tough, others possess a variety of traits, allowing them to spread disease or move with increased speed.

Zombies are unthinking automatons, and can do little more than follow orders. When left unattended, zombies tend to mill about in search of living creatures to slaughter and devour. Zombies attack until destroyed, having no regard for their own safety.

Zombies ignore damage from most weapons and natural attacks. Wounds heal immediately, or the weapon bounces off harmlessly. They can take normal damage from energy attacks (even nonmagical ones), spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities. Slashing weapons can damage zombies normally.

Variant Zombies

The typical zombie is a slow-moving abomination that is tough to destroy. Yet this tough zombie is not the only type of zombie to plague crypts or stalk graveyards.

Fast Zombies

Unlike the standard, plodding zombie, a fast zombie moves with a supernatural quickness.

Fast zombies are affected normally by all weapons.

Fast zombies are not staggered.
